• Every Flower Tells a Story… Inspired by a reading from Sylvia’s book, Tulips Talk…are you listening?  Each design will begin by using  fresh seasonal blooms, many grown by local flower farms, to tell a personal story  shared in the book. Perhaps- inspiring your own floral memory.
• Colors of the Season, Stories of the Soul:   The colors and textures of the world around us will be reflected as we explore our emotional responses to color. Awaken your own color inspirations memories, and leave with beauty and comfort in your heart.
• Reflections of Autumn Glory:  Today’s flowering adventure is all about Texture! Seasonal pods, seeds, nuts and grasses and floral containers,, add interest to the colorful flowers as we weave in the personal stories flowers inspire.
• Spirited, Bewitching Blooms:  Darkly divine florals with a hint of whimsy and a spark of blazing color! This time we will experiment with unusual blooms that suggest a “spooky” Halloween adventure. What stories will these blossoms tell?
• Sharing Gratitude for Friends, Family and Flowers:  Celebrate  seasonal abundance with a group of 3 tablescapes that will encourage meaningful conversation and family stories. Learn how to how to personalize your table settings by choosing from a variety of elements to complement this evening’s design.
• A Floral Celebration of the Year’s End: Choose foliage from the landscape, add a bit of magnolia, a little holly, maybe a bit of sparkle, roses, orchids, and family heirlooms to tell the story of your own holiday celebrations. Whatever you celebration you will celebrate your own personal  holiday.

Inspirational designs to grow your own floral spirit!  Approximately 1 hour, minimum of 4 designs.  Designs can be tailored to your group.  Day or evening possible.

Additional Information: 

Sylvia has enjoyed a long career as a professional floral designer, national educator, 29 year retail floral shop owner, and Board member/past President of the Suburban Garden Club.  She worked for 12 years managing the opening and staffing of the Floral Shop within the Cheshire Nursery and Garden Center until her retirement in 2021.

Through the last 35+ years, Sylvia has presented programs for many garden clubs, including the annual meetings of the Federation Garden Clubs of Connecticut  and the Cheshire Garden Club Holiday Luncheons. A designer at the Wadsworth Atheneum Fine Arts and Flowers “Art in Bloom” event for 30 years, she was the featured speaker at the 2025 event.

Well schooled in the principles and elements of design and a serious competitor, Sylvia is a passionate advocate for relaxing and letting flowers speak for themselves. Her recent book entitled,  Tulips Talk…are you listening?, began as a reflection of her floral experiences. A collection of her inspirations, as well as, those of many local gardeners, floral colleagues and high school classmates, it is illustrated by fabulous photographs by Angela Pontecorvo- a former employee, now good friend.  The book, currently in its second printing, has been widely received, leading to  yet another step in her floral journey.  A web-site, a blog, a journal that inspires other flower lovers to add their own stories and inspirations, and a continuing workshop series keeps her busy.

Sylvia is also available for small group workshops offered twice a month in Cheshire or by request at your location.
