The Bronze Medal, Susan Quincy, CT DEEP Environmental Educator

Top FGCCT Award – The Bronze Medal

Susan Quincy, CT DEEP Environmental Educator, was the honored recipient of the 2022 Bronze Medal for her work over the past 15 years as a presenter, educator and administrator to the chairs of The Federation’s Environmental School.

Established in 1935, this award is the highest award given by The Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut to an individual, couple, group or club for outstanding accomplishments in upholding the aims and purposes of The Federation.

Awards of Honor

The Award of Honor may be conferred on a garden club that, over a period of five years, has maintained a record of exceptional achievement in upholding the aims and purposes of The Federation.

Federation Awards

The Lucille Schavoir Award

Established in 1978, this award may be presented annually to a club for outstanding garden club work during the June 1 through May 31 awards year. This award is considered the highest award presented to a club.

The Lilliam M. Rathbun Award

Established in 1990 in memory of former Federation President Lillian M. Rathbun, a member of the Lyme Garden Club.  This award is considered the highest award presented to an individual garden club member.

Civic Development Awards

Presidents’ Award

Established in 1985 to honor all former State Federation Presidents by former Federation President Sally Shumway (1983-1985).  This award may be presented to a club for an outstanding community project.

Lee Bauerfeld Beautification Award

Established in 2002 in memory of former Federation President Lee Bauerfeld and may be presented  for an outstanding civic project that benefits the community both aesthetically and environmentally and is designed to encourage further improvement.

Civic Creativity Award

Established in 2007 and presented to a club for an unusual and outstanding and creative project in the area of civic development.

Established in memory of former Federation President Pauline B. Tyler by the Federation’s Board of Directors and is awarded for excellence in promoting conservation or legislation.

Flower Show Awards

The Mary Loncin Flower Show Award

Established in 2004 by Mary Loncin, this award honors her love of floral design and encourages garden clubs to continue to hold Standard Flower Shows. 
The award and a $100 check are presented to a club for the highest scoring Standard Flower Show in Connecticut.

Jennifer Paul, Intended Career: Natural Resource Conservation Management

“Those that believe in education and knowledge, such as those at your scholarship program, help others attain an accomplishment that will last them a lifetime.  I am currently attending the University of Connecticut in pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resources.  I chose to attend the University of Connecticut because I believe their natural resources program is one of the best in the region.  As a result, I feel that I will be well prepared for a career in my field of study.  Receiving a higher education is currently my highest priority, and your scholarship has made doing so less worrisome and more attainable.”  Jennifer Paul

 

Yearbook Award of Excellence

Yearbook Award of Excellence, The Suffield Garden Club, Inc.

The Yearbook Award was established in 2004 by Program Chairs, Florence Flynn and Inge Venus. 

Suffield Garden Club’s 2022-2023 Yearbook best demonstrated an all-around approach to furthering President Polly Brooks’ project theme, “We Growing Gardens & Gardeners.”  The yearbook cover, President’s letter, and the use of graphics throughout the yearbook identify and highlight supporting programs and speaker topics which support the theme.  All sections contributed to a unified yearbook and a Club year of “Growing Gardens & Gardeners.”

Established in 2993, these awards are presented to a club for outstanding work with youth in programs, conducted outside of a school setting, such a Boy Scouts, Firl Scouts, town or church youth programs, hospitals and other youth program.

Connecticut Receives New England Awards!
New England Garden Clubs Annual Meeting – October 19, 2022

The Federation, Connecticut garden clubs and individual Connecticut club members
were all recognized with awards at the New England Garden Club’s Annual Meeting.
This represents the best of all entries from the 6 New England States.  Congratulations
to all winners!

  • The Cornelia Williamson Watson Award for Historic Preservation:
    Pomperaug Valley Garden Club for their renovation of the 18 th century historic Hurd House herb garden in Woodbury.
