This open meeting of the Westport Garden Club will feature a talk by Westport Town Art curator Kathie Bennewitz who will present: “A Life in Art: The Boyer & Merrilees Families.” Drawn from the book of the same title published in 2020, Bennewitz explores the work of Ralph L. Boyer (1879-1952) and his daughter Rebecca Boyer Merrilees (1922-2012)” who each captured the natural beauty of their Coleyetown Easton Road property — named “Tickle Tree” –along the Aspetuck River from the 1920s to the 1960s. Becky Boyer Merrilees was best-known as a botanical illustrator and In 1960 she became the first female artist with a Reader’s Digest cover. She drew 8 more covers, all botanical.
