The Litchfield Garden Club Projects and Beautification Committee (Lynne Sherman and Dale Ryan) presented the Conservation Committee chair, Grace Yagtug, with two “Insect Hotels.” Conservation focused on bird houses and the Projects and Beautification Committee thought insect hotels would be a complimentary addition to conservation.
As we all know, insects are dwindling in numbers due to insecticides, herbicides and human encroachment. Therefore, bugs need safe habitats to thrive. The hotels are filled with natural materials: tree branches, bark, pine cones as well as shells, stones and lichen.
The photos below are Dale Ryan with the unadorned insect hotel, second photo Dale Ryan, Lynne Sherman and Grace Yagtug and lastly the completed Insect Hotel.
